as a life long die hard st louis fan, i'm personally glad they didn't spend 254 million to keep him. it would have handicapped the organization 5-6 yrs from now when he starts his true decline. if not sooner. the cardinals arent a L.A. or new york market. I don't believe they could have withstood that sorta increase to their payroll. more power to albert, he was about getting all the money he could apparently. wish him the best. I have moved on.

true, only an AL team can afford to pay that much for him because they have option to make him a DH for the last few years of the contract

This, i really hoped the Cardinals would be able to keep him but the cost would have been too high. Glad he walked.
