Unbelievable run to WIN the series!!
Freese wins MVP (Carp also deserved it, Molina had a legit shot too)
Furcal and Berkman finally win one.
Tony proves his doubters wrong (again)
I thought Berkman was the key. Albert had one "Albert game" but Berkman quietly hit up around .440 and kept nearly every rally alive and put people in position to score. Incredible finish to a season. Congrats St Louis, looking forward to next year.

I gotta say, it was awesome. I grew up a Cardinals fan, but I quit watching back when they had the strike in the 94-95 season. I was actually in St. Louis back during McGwire's and Sosa's HR record chase, and decided to give baseball another chance and actually went to a game. McGwire decided not to play that day so of course I wrote off baseball again after deciding to give it another shot for all of 3 hours or so. It took 12 years for me to watch some games again, glad I decided to follow this series.

Congratulations Coach Cal on handing your opponents their asses 500 times and counting

This is exactly the same thing that happened to me! I used to be an avid Reds fan until that strike. I have watched exactly one whole game since....one of the games when the Red Sox pitcher with the injured foot (Schiller???) was beating the dreaded Yankees. Back in the day, I would take a small portable radio to bed with me when the Reds were playing on the west coast and turn it on to check the score every time I woke up. That total disdain for the fans during the mid season strike finished me off as a baseball fan. I know the Reds have a guy named Vetto or Votto and a pitcher named Arroyo(???) playing for them and that's about the extent of my baseball knowledge. Boy, it sure was fun, though, during the reign of the Big Red Machine!!!! It was a lot of hours of pleasure watching them take teams apart.

Thanx for the LP Sully. I am sad as hell to see La Russa call it quits. but for those of us that follow the cards as much as myself, i think we have seen it coming for a few yrs now. If you ever constructed a Mt Rushmore for baseball managers, then no doubt Tony is on that short list. His numbers are that good. You might have loved him or hated him, but he has flat out won wherever he as been. Sure Torre and Bobby Cox are considered recently, but Torre was sub par everywhere he was before he got the opportunity and fate had it for him with the Yanks, and Bobby's run with ATL was historic, but he only won one world series throughout that run. La Russa was a winner from day one. Three different teams to the playoffs, three world series titles in six chances, one of only two managers to win one in both leagues, (sparky), third in total wins for a manager, second in playoff wins behind Torre, and yea, those numbers like all baseball stats are skewed over time, as the game and rules change, ala the wild card. But he inovated the game as well. For you baseball purist, it was La Russa that created the the reliever specialist, the 3 out closer in the 9th, the lefty for lefties, situational bullpen management as art, he may not have created those ideas exclusively, but he perfected them from the american league to his run with the Cards in the national. He was a die hard perfectionist and managed the game by the stats and was one of the great competitors from inside the dugout. As a Card fan, we seemed to always have heated rivals because of Tony, whether it was with Dusty with Giants then to the Cubs and then to the Reds, or just because he always had his teams in contention. Lance Berkman said it best, the Cardinals to him while he was with the Astros were the Darth Vader of the national league central, just the team you had to beat to get where you wanted to go. Whether it was the LCS with the Braves in 96, or the Giants, Mets, and Astros, we as Cardinal fans always seemed to be in contention for a spot in that illustrious World Series with La Russa in charge. It was Boston's fate to finally break the CURSE OF THE BAMBINO in 04, and i couldn't have been sadened or more proud for them to do it againts my St Louis Cardinals honestly, or Tony's first as a Cardinal in 06, as Gibby said, this cements you as part of the family, or this, one of the most historic runs in MLB history, to win this one, one of the most improbable runs a professional sports team of any sport may have ever gone on to come from so far back to become World Champs. Thank you Tony La Russa for your 16 yrs as a manager for my St Louis Cardinals, and as one of the greatest managers to ever coach any team, any franchise in any sport.

I was always a fan of La Russa. He may not have been loved by all but we couldnt have asked for a better manager.
