New Kentucky Head Coach Joker Phillips kept a commitment from Murfreesboro, TN DT Tim McAdoo. McAdoo sent in his signed letter of intent to play for the Wildcats on February 3, 2010, National Signing Day for the 2010 class of football recruits. Earlier I was able to speak with Tim's coach, Thomas McDaniel of Oakland High School, who shed some light on what Kentucky fans can expect from the 6'2 320 lb. McAdoo.
"Tim is someone who can contribute in the SEC. He's a guy who can make the program better," said McDaniel. Adding, "There is definitely a place for Tim at Kentucky."
When asked about McAdoo's strengths, McDaniel commented, "At Tim's size, he's got a wide body and occupies a lot of space. He has really good hands and is a very aggressive player."
What about things to improve upon?
"Tim may need to manage his weight a little better. Getting off the ball and his pad level could also use some improvement, as well as his hand placement," said McDaniel.
So why Kentucky?
"Tim wanted to be close to home and Kentucky is only about three hours away. Playing in the SEC is definitely something Tim wanted to do. He's really excited about the opportunity," said McDaniel.
Assistant Head Coach Steve Ortemeyer was mainly involved in McAdoo's recruitment. Although McAdoo expects to play DT at Kentucky, some of Joker Phillips comments at his Signing Day press conference indicated McAdoo may be looked at to fill other positions, including on the offensive line.
