"Booster Lunch Emailgate" Exposed as a Fake!

A malicious email has been circulating among UK fans over the past few days.  Due to the named participants in an alleged conversation, this email has a ring of "legitimacy" that is not warranted

I recently spoke to Steve Higdon, one of the parties named in the email.  You can hear his comments regarding this matter by clicking the play button on the player to the left.

If you have received this email, please do your duty as UK fan and reply to all those who received the email and direct them to the truth.  False information like this harms UK as well as those who are named as participants in the conversation.  Set the record straight.

We have decided to not post the original email sent out in order to stop the proliferation of false rumors.  If you hear any reference about some conversation including Darryl Issacs, Steve Higdon or Rich McCarty, disregard any of those remarks.

Here is the retraction letter sent out to Mr. Higdon:

Steve,

I wanted to reach out and try to extend an apology to Mr. Isaacs, you and anyone else that I may have brought negative attention to by an email that I sent to my dad, brother, and best friend back home the other day.  I certainly did not stop to think of the implications that could result.

I have grown up a huge cats fan and was forced by my job to relocate my family to Florida in January and don’t get to follow the team like I normally do.  I rely very much on friends and family for what is going on.  They will call with what is happening on the local news or radio talk shows.  As you can imagine, now is a big time for information.

I had a conversation with a friend back home last week and we were talking UK/UofL basketball as we often do.  He indicated that he had lunch with you and mentioned during our conversation that Daryl Issacs, a big UK supporter was at the restaurant.  Either my friend mistakenly implied or I inadvertently assumed that Daryl was actually having lunch with you guys.  I now have come to understand that Daryl was not at lunch with you but rather just passed by momentarily to say hello as he was having lunch with another group.  I want to make it very clear that I was not present personally and therefore cannot verify your conversation that day.  Because I wasn’t there to hear any comments firsthand, I should not have put together an email attributing quotes to anyone.

I have since been told that Mr. Isaacs himself never made any comments that day about any of our players or their parents or our AD, regarding their feelings towards our coach.  Since I was not there, I have no idea if the comments that were told to me were taken out of context or came from other rumor-mill conversations, but I now suspect that was the case.    My friend has since confirmed to me that these rumors were taken out of context involving a series of conversations with a variety of people or sources and not just from your lunch together.  I’m not a journalist, I suppose from now on I should really check all the sources that could possibly exist before sending an email and never quote someone unless I heard it directly from the source.

Again, I want to apologize for not thinking.  It was someone stuck down here in Florida trying to have fun with his dad and brother about a basketball program that I care about for very much.  I regret this caused Daryl and you any undeserving attention.

John

Wow... what malicious son of a bitch would form a fake letter like this? I hope they get their ass sued off when they find out who sent it. Unless this person is a tech guy, they'll be able to track it. Hate to be them.
