Brandon Knight Deciding "Soon"

Adam Zagoria has a new entry up on his site about Brandon Knight's impending decision, and it's an interesting one for Cats fans. Knight, averaging 32.4 points per game this season, will play today at 3:30pm for the Florida state 3A finals, his last game as a high school athlete. But of more interest to UK fans is what happens after that game. It appears as though Knight is about ready to end his recruitment, with a decision set to be made "soon."

Knight's father, Efrem, recently told Zagoria:

“Nobody’s leading. Brandon can flourish at any one of the schools that he’s going to. It still where it’s been. He’s considering all the same schools.”

Even more interesting than Knight's decision is another piece of the article, where Zagoria mentions a conversation about Knight's recruitment with an anonymous assistant coach, who comments on the plethora of top point guards still available and seemingly waiting on Knight to make a decision. Click read more to continue.

The source says,

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” one Division 1 assistant coach said. “It’s just odd because all these guys are point guards.”

The coach said he believed Knight’s delay in announcing was holding up the other guards, who are waiting to see what he does.

“My thing is this, if you want to go to Kentucky then say you’re going there,” the coach said. “[Kentucky coach John] Calipari really wants Brandon Knight and I think Coach Cal is holding everyone up.”

I find this quote puzzling for many reasons, the most of which is that it seems to insinuate that Calipari is in the driver's seat, yet is intentionally holding off Knight's commitment for whatever reason. I find this hard to believe, but I'm no guru ...

In any case, it's hard not to pick up on the frustration in the source's quote, leading one to believe that at least someone involved in the recruitment thinks UK is in a great position. We'll all find out soon, and hopefully usher in yet another top rated point guard to Lexington.
